Lesson 08 第八课

Gen 1:14-19

Lesson #8

And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights-- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning-- the fourth day. (Gen. 1:14-19)

We Praise God

… We Praise you God for the lights in the sky or the vault

… The sun, the moon and the stars are light bearers and not true lights

… These lights are like the bulbs that glow, when connected to a power source

… These lights are created objects and not parts of the creator

… These lights are not intelligent unlike the light of God

… These lights are sources of heat and energy

… These light sources serve four purposes:

Separate the Day from Night (Distinction)

Source of Light on the earth

Remind us O God of our desperate situation without you

… for establishing the heavenly lights that belongs to you (Ps.74:16)

… for making the great lights, your steadfast love endures forever (Ps. 136:7)

… for you could remove heavenly lights to bring darkness on earth (Ezek. 32:7-8)

… for you are the Father of lights, the unchanging source (Jas. 1:17)

… for you are the giver of all good and perfect gift from above (Jas. 1:17)

… for it is by your will that you brought us into light by the word of truth, so that we could be the first fruits of all your creation (Jas. 1:18)

… for through Jesus Christ, we are the children of light & day (1 Thess. 5:5)

… for the light of lamp or sun is not needed when you become our true light

… for you will one day be the light in which we will reign forever (Rev. 22:5)

… reigning in the light of God forever is our intended purpose (Rev. 22:5)

… for you are blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see and to whom alone all honor, eternal dominion belongs.    (1 Tim. 6:15-16)

However, Father God we acknowledge that we have sinned:

… by not praised you enough as our creator

… by praising and worshiping created beings

… our sin has brought us to a state of formlessness, empty, and dark

… for rejecting Jesus Christ, who said “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (Jn. 8:12)

… for rejecting our life in Jesus Christ by walking in darkness to the point that we do not know where we are going anymore. (Jn. 12:35)

… by not producing the fruit of light i.e. good, right and true (Eph. 5:9)

… Please forgive us for all our known and unknown sins against you

… We repent and turn to you

Application for today as children of God

… us to believe in Jesus Christ, your Son, whom you sent has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (2 Tim. 1:10)

… us to believe in Jesus Christ, in whom is life, and this life is the light of mankind (Jn. 1:4)

… us to believe in Jesus Christ, and follow him with the light of life and not walk in the darkness (Jn. 8:12)

… us to walk in the light, as you are in the light in order that we may have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ your Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 Jn. 1:7)

… us to produce the fruit of light in our life i.e. good, right and true (Eph. 5:9)

… us to experience every good and every perfect gift that comes from you the Father of lights, who sends from above and not settle for less (Jas. 1:17)

In Jesus name, Amen.
