Lesson 08 第八课

 LESSON 8

God created a wife for Adam

Scripture: Genesis 2:18-25

1.      God decided that Adam needed a wife as a helper.

We have already learned from God’s Book that on the day when God made Adam, He also made Eve, the first woman.

Genesis 1:26-27

“Then God said, "Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life-- the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals, and small animals." 27 So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.”

We also learned that God made Adam’s body from the ground.

Genesis 2:7

“And the LORD God formed a man's body from the dust of the ground and breathed into it the breath of life. And the man became a living person.”

What we have not yet learned is how God made Eve’s body. The part of God’s Book that we are now going to read first explains why God made Eve and then how God made her body. All that we are going to read in this lesson happened on the same day. After God had made Adam’s body and given him life, God decided to make a wife for Adam.

Genesis 2:18

The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

God decided that Adam should not live alone.

God didn’t ask Adam what he wanted or thought best. God made the decision to make a companion for Adam.

God had created Adam, and God knew what was best for him. God loved Adam and wanted him to be happy. God knew that Adam wouldn’t continue to be happy if he was alone. Because God loved Adam and wanted the best for him, He decided to make a wife for him.

2.   God brought all of the animals before Adam to be named by him.

Genesis 2:19-20

So the LORD God formed from the soil every kind of animal and bird. He brought them to Adam to see what he would call them, and Adam chose a name for each one. 20 He gave names to all the livestock, birds, and wild animals. But still there was no companion suitable for him.

God had given man the responsibility to be manager of all the things that God created on the earth. God had placed Adam as the leader over all the animals, the birds and the fish. So God also gave Adam the responsibility of naming each living creature. God brought to Adam each animal and bird that He had created, and Adam named each of them.

3.   There was no suitable companion for Adam among the animals.

Genesis 2:20 He gave names to all the livestock, birds, and wild animals. But still there was no companion suitable for him.

No animal could be a suitable companion for Adam.

God created man to be very different from the animals. Man was made in God’s image. God gave man a mind, emotions and a will so that man could know, love and obey God. The animals, however, were not made in God’s image. Animals are not able to know, love and obey God like man can.

Adam needed someone who was interested in the same things as he was. He needed someone who could do the same things that he could do. He needed someone with whom he could communicate.

Animals are not interested in the same things that people are interested in. Animals cannot do the same things that people can do. Animals cannot communicate as people communicate. Animals are very different from people. Therefore, no animal could be a suitable companion for Adam.

Only God could provide a suitable companion for Adam.

Adam could not do anything to provide himself with a companion. The spirits could not make a companion for Adam. Only God could make a companion for Adam. God can do anything He wants to do.

4.   God created a companion for Adam.

NLT Genesis 2:21-22 So the LORD God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. He took one of Adam's ribs and closed up the place from which he had taken it. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib and brought her to Adam.

Only God could make a woman from Adam’s rib. He knows everything and can do anything He wants to do.

God made the first woman as a gift for man.

If someone who loves you gave you a good and expensive gift, would you take good care of it? Of course, you would!

God gave the woman to Adam, and God expected Adam to take good care of her and to love her.

Adam was very pleased with God’s gift of a wife for him.

5.   Marriage was ordained by God.

NLT Genesis 2:23-24 "At last!" Adam exclaimed. "She is part of my own flesh and bone! She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken out of a man." 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

God made Eve for Adam so they could be married, live together and have children. God commanded Adam and Eve to “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth.”

Marriage is good because God gave marriage to mankind. Everything that God does and says is good because He is perfect. He cannot think, say or do anything evil.

6.   Adam and his wife were unaware that they were naked, and they were totally unembarrassed.

NLT Genesis 2:25 Now, although Adam and his wife were both naked, neither of them felt any shame.

In many cultures of the world today nakedness is regarded as something shameful. History is filled with soldiers or of people in power stripping their enemies of their clothes and requiring them to walk in nakedness or in shame. However, the Bible says that Adam and Eve were without clothes and had no shame or embarrassment. This gives us a picture of their intimacy between God and each other. It also shows they had a sense of moral purity. They had done nothing before God or each other in which to be ashamed. They were without fault or guilt.
